The purpose of the Siberian Husky Sled Dog Showcase
The ‘Siberian Husky Sled Dog Showcase’ was designed by Abby Fallis in 2012 as a dog show for working Siberian Huskies to be judged to the same breed standard as (often non-working) show dogs. It’s a place where Mushers can show off their sled dogs to judges who themselves have many years experience working with sled dogs, ie other mushers. The idea was to have a three judge panel – one each for sprint, mid-distance and distance, as well as judges with knowledge of different pedigrees and bloodlines. Unlike kennel club shows, the dogs are evaluated as sled dogs. They are given an evaluation based on performance, structure, movement, conditioning, temperament and overall impression.
The Sleddog Sports Association of Southwestern Ontario is honoured to present the next Siberian Husky Sled Dog Showcase in partnership with the Siberian Husky Club of Canada (SHCC) which will be held on Saturday 11th May 2019 in Underwood, Ontario.
Our three judges for the 2019 showcase are:
Ann will be joining us all the way from Minnesota, in the midwestern United States, she has been breeding, training and racing AKC Siberian Huskies for 42 years. As owner of Northome on Windhill registered kennel, Ann’s Siberians have raced all sprint classes including Open class and also mid-distance events up to 100 miles. Ann was a full time trainer and provided dogs for the motion picture ‘Iron Will’. She regularly teaches a Mushing Boot Camp with her good friend Jamie Nelson.
Jim has 16 years of race marshal experience including categories such as ski-joring, sprints, mid and long distance races and is an accredited Race Marshal by the Siberian Husky Club of Canada and by the International Federation of Sleddog Sports. He ran Siberian Huskies (Cedarpaws kennel) for 18 years of racing including sprints, mid-distance and ski-joring. He won two Gold medals at the IFSS World Championships in 2015 Dawson City, Yukon.
Lynn started showing her dogs in 1995 a year after opening her home to her first Siberian. Three acquired their conformation champion titles, one of them acquired an obedience title in a single weekend – almost unheard of for a Siberian. Lynn first raced in 2000 and won the Central Ontario 4-Dog trophy in her rookie year. In 2002, Lynn was honoured with an invitation from Elsie Chadwick, the founder of the Seguin Mailrun and later became one of the mail run’s organisers until 2017.
